Tioman Island

Tioman Island, the largest and most striking of Malaysia’s east coast islands, is a tropical haven blending natural beauty and adventure. The island’s western ridge is covered in lush jungle, which cascades down to palm-fringed beaches, creating an idyllic setting for visitors. Tioman offers a variety of activities, from snorkeling in crystal-clear waters and exploring the vibrant underwater world through diving, to simply lounging on its beaches and soaking up the sun. For those seeking more adventure, the island’s dense jungle awaits exploration, home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna.

According to legend, Tioman was once the resting place of a beautiful dragon princess. While flying from China to meet her prince in Singapore, she stopped to refresh herself in the crystal-clear waters of the South China Sea. Captivated by the island’s beauty, she decided to stay, transforming herself into Tioman Island, where she would offer shelter and comfort to travelers passing by.

Located about 32 km off Mersing on the mainland, Pulau Tioman (Malay for Tioman Island) is the largest in the Seribuat Archipelago, a group of 64 volcanic islands off Pahang’s southeastern coast. Spanning a land area of approximately 133.6 sq km, the island measures 38 km long and 19 km at its widest point, making it a destination both impressive in size and rich in natural allure.

DIVE TIOMAN ISLAND

Tioman Island, located off Malaysia’s East Coast, lies at the edge of the Coral Triangle, boasting extensive coral reefs that are home to an incredible array of tropical fish, both large and small. In addition to its vibrant marine life, Tioman offers over a dozen diveable wrecks, including mostly scuttled wooden-hulled fishing trawlers, and a larger 31-meter-long ex-navy and marine police patrol vessel, sunk in early 2012, adding an adventurous twist to its underwater exploration.

The calm, shallow waters at sites like Soyak Island, Pirate Reef, and Renggis Island are perfect for training, beginner divers, and underwater photography enthusiasts. For those seeking a bit more challenge, sites such as Chebeh, Labas, and Tiger Reef offer deeper waters with occasional strong currents, where divers can encounter larger species and marvel at stunning macro marine life. Whether you're a novice or an experienced diver, Tioman Island has something for everyone!
